Emma just about screamed the whole neighborhood from the moment I picked her up. The nanny thought it was a good idea to put her to bed for half an hour, let her sleep well and then wake her up for the last bit of milk before Mom came. Baby not happy, and that's an understatement! (And let's not get into how mom felt after a decent 10 hour day at the office 😉 ) ... time for some one-on-one attention with the Miffy Dictionary... read what that did!

Anyway, with two bags, a roaring baby whose sound echoed wonderfully in the large entrance hall of the gallery flat, in uncomfortably high heels and with one hand free and my body bent in an impossible position I stand ready to open the mailbox at the flat make… and yes… there was a really nice uplifting surprise in it! We were allowed to review the Miffy Dictionary, that's true! I handed her the envelope. Up to the front door, Emma was not very impressed. But once without a coat on the rug, the book was immediately requisitioned by my almost 1-year-old.
The first impression was not yet read, but because of the Miffy shape of the book, she could do more with it than that. Miffy had to get in and out of the basket, and in, and… etc. I quickly took advantage of this playing moment to exchange my heels with slippers, and my jacket and blouse with sweater. Then I sat down with her and showed that Miffy could open. When she saw that there were all pictures in it, she couldn't stop having fun. The distraction made her anger disappear like snow in the sun 😉 .
Later in the weekend we got down to it a few more times. She starts to get into the fun phase where she tries to imitate things and imitate sounds. It's really hilarious, when I say yawning hey, she imitates the length and rhythm of that sound. And kitty is psss, and if I present the “f” sound then she's in a dent and eventually returns the “s” sound. The words in the book are really well timed. She turns the pages herself, so we don't get to the whole page. But flipping through the book with mom for about 5 to 10 minutes goes great. You can see from the photo that she remains active while 'reading', but hey, I'm already happy with this photo because last week we were without a smartphone for a week.
In the end she then runs off with Miffy, because the book is actually also a doll. She really can't say Miffy yet, she can't hear the ij sound yet. But this lady did try:ball (bah), balloon (bah-on), sun (on), coat (ssss), day (dah + wave).
I expect this book to be enjoyable for a long time to come, and then on a different level each time. Now it's the colours, pictures and repeating. But you can easily create your own story. The pictures are organized by theme, so you can easily tell about the time you went to the beach, she had to wear a bathing suit, we found shells, ate an ice cream, etcetera. Emma will probably play the game “where's the….” going to have a lot of fun with this book. In short:highly recommended! Also really nice to give this Miffy Dictionary as a gift for, for example, a first birthday!
As far as I'm concerned, the Miffy Dictionary works wonders. Emma may not be a fluent reader (that would be something), but she was back to her senses in no time at all!
For example, you can find the Miffy dictionary online, or you can participate in our promotion below 😉 .
