After years of working in the restaurant industry, Kelvin and Mandy Slater decided they were done working as cooks, servers, bartenders and managers. The married couple wanted to be their own boss, so in 2003 they opened their own restaurant, which grew to five locations before selling it in 2015.
The couple then encountered an opportunity at Ponce City Market in Atlanta which led them to start their own company, Slater Hospitality, which oversees a group of restaurants located in the market.

Kelvin has been a member of the Entrepreneurs Organization for over three years. "It's great and humbling to be around other entrepreneurs who are growing their business," he says, adding that his experience has taught him to be intentional in his relationships with his wife and children.
For Entrepreneurs who are considering going into business with loved ones, Kelvin offers these tips:
It's a marriage, so treat it with respect.
Set aside time each week to talk about family, goals, and each other.
Schedule date nights.
Develop key people in your business.
