Men and women are not equal, and women should give priority to mothering, Turkish President Erdogan said. Last Monday he made his statement about this at a summit on Women and Law. At the meeting in Istanbul he left no doubt about this, you have probably already seen it. The role of women in society is motherhood. In any case, that's how Islam views women, he says.
Erdogan adds that feminists will not understand this, as they do not accept the concept of motherhood. Now I don't really feel like a feminist, but statements like this do get the blood under my fingernails. Why are men and women not equal? It gives me the feeling of being 'back to square one'. And at the same time I do feel some pride that we in the Netherlands look at it differently. Right?
Or do we secretly still have a lot of work to do in this area in the Netherlands. Just like Erdogan, 'we' still think that men and women are not equal and that they should not be treated the same because it goes against nature. After all, it is still the case that men here in the Netherlands often earn more than women, even if they do the same work. Doesn't that reflect the same approach? Men and women are not equal. At least not in the salary tree of most companies.
In addition, as far as I'm concerned, the role of motherhood goes well with, for example, a career. If the father, too, cares about his fatherhood and does not hide behind his work. Equal monks equal hoods, at work, but also at home. And that also means that women take out the garbage if necessary!
Tell me, how is the distribution with you and how do you feel about it?
