88% of people who have taken a gap year say it has improved their career. No less than 60% also say that the experience propelled them into their current career or confirmed their university choice. This is apparent from research by EF Education about people who take a gap year, as well as a meta-analysis of existing -scientific- research. Below are some findings.
* 67% of gap year students would prefer to travel
* 35% of high school students are considering taking a gap year
* Women (30%) are more likely to have a gap year than men (21%)
* The top reasons for students to take a gap year are burnout from high school pressure and a desire to find themselves
* Underperforming students in high school, are more motivated and get higher grades in college after a gap year
* 39% of people taking a gap year spend time at home, 27% go to work and 14% travel
