It feels great when you are offered a new job. Especially after a long search. Finally, an employer sees that you are the right person for the job. Your feelings of relief and excitement can be enormous. Before you accept the job, take a deep breath. Is your gut telling you something you don't necessarily want to hear? There are some very good reasons to turn down a job. Basically it comes down to an unavoidable fact:taking a job that you are not happy with can end badly and it is difficult to look for another job once you start this new job. Do the following reasons apply to your situation?
The conditions of the job are unsatisfactory
You didn't get the title you wanted. Not enough salary. A restrictive holiday policy. If there are gaps in the way your negotiations have gone, they can lead to resentment and frustration. Keep in mind that when you accept a job, you may have to wait for a scheduled performance review to request changes. Can you wait that long?
The work itself is too difficult or too easy
You could set yourself up for failure if the level of work is too complicated or too simple. If it's too complicated, but you've played a good game and sold yourself too much, it won't be long before your new employer discovers the truth. And if the work is boring, you can eventually get bored, looking for a quick exit.
