Add Auto-Save to the quick access toolbar

Adding an autosave icon to the quick access toolbar is easy. Just follow these five steps:

  1. Start Microsoft Word, Excel, or Powerpoint.
  2. Locate the small down arrow in the upper left corner of the screen.

  3. Click the arrow to expand the list of Quick Access Toolbar customizations.
  4. Click Save automatically .

  5. Slide the switch to the On position.

However, the new autosave feature has a few caveats that you should be aware of:

  • The feature will only work if you save the document to OneDrive. It doesn't work for locally saved documents.

  • The feature only works for newer Office document formats. For example, if you have saved files as XLS, PPT or DOC, the function will not work. Instead, you need to make sure your files are saved in the latest DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX formats.
