Dutch woman chooses career over relationship

More than 50 percent of Dutch women indicate that her career is more important than her relationship. Career has therefore become more important for women, but what is possible and what is not? 5 percent of women would share a bed with their boss to move up the ladder, versus 11 percent of men. 15 percent of men believe that it should be possible to have sex with a colleague who is in a relationship or is married, compared to 7 percent of women. Flirting is more accepted, women (almost 10 percent) and men (15 percent) are throwing the charms into battle in the workplace. This is shown by research by Marie Claire.

Also, 64 percent of those surveyed think that women are offered more career opportunities. 51 percent think that men and women are given more equal opportunities in the workplace. It is striking that both men and women believe that more than 50 percent of women prefer their career over their relationship. However, there are still some stubborn obstacles to overcome. For example, 48 percent think that becoming a mother is bad for her career. A quarter of men also find it logical that women do not hold top positions, compared to 1 in 10 women.

What do we still want to achieve in the next 25 years? Travel (42 percent) and money (39 percent) are high on the agenda. In terms of relationships, women feel more strongly that they are still in the same relationship than men (82 percent versus 76 percent). Men are therefore clearly more convinced that there is a chance of an affair:16 percent (men) compared to 9 percent (women).
