Shaking hands or giving three kisses are common business greetings, but a third of office workers are not always comfortable doing so from a hygienic point of view. Colleagues who sneeze or cough in public are not our favorite either:no fewer than 47 percent say they are sometimes annoyed by this. Half of the employees also get an uneasy feeling about the smell of other colleagues. This is apparent from research by SCA, which is known for its hygiene products.
Top 5 annoyances
Three quarters believe that poor hygiene has a negative impact on employees, for example on happiness or performance at work. Almost half also find themselves even more hygienic than others in the office. The biggest annoyances?
* Finding colleagues' hair on the sink or bathroom floor (64%)
* Dirty looking or smelling clothes of colleagues (63%)
* Crumbs or stains from other people's food/drink (61%)
* Colleagues who don't clean up after them (54%)
* Using the same toilet as unknown visitors (45%)
* More than a third are sometimes afraid of getting infected when colleagues come to work sick. They indicate that their employer should make disinfecting hand gel available.
The survey shows that 50% of the respondents prefer to work in their own, enclosed space. Although a fifth find it pleasant to share a work environment with others, 44% of flexworkers sometimes worry about whether their desk has been left clean by their predecessor.
