The search for the right job can be quite a challenge. The fact that we are still dealing with a pandemic does not make it any easier. Nevertheless, there are sectors in which the demand for new talent has increased in the past year. LinkedIn provides insight into the 15 fastest growing jobs in the Netherlands and thus into the opportunities on the labor market.

Healthcare, Education &E-commerce
It's no surprise that the top 15 fastest-growing jobs in 2020 show strong demand in education and healthcare. The list includes three different positions in health care:medical specialists, additional support staff, and mental health workers. Remarkably, the pandemic has also caused many companies to turn to e-commerce, with not only a higher demand for positions in that sector, but also more demand for talent in customer service and operations.

Freelance &Tech
Good news for freelancers:the top 15 shows a growing demand for temporary support in the field of creativity and digital content. Professionals with technical skills are also baked in, given the growing demand for AI &Data specialists, but also Digital Marketing.

The report also shows that the major cities in particular are hotspots for new jobs:the largest growth in available jobs can be seen in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven.

In addition, a short summary on your profile about who you are and what your most important skills are can provide a good picture of yourself.”

Show that you are available.
“You can let recruiters and your network know that you are open to new opportunities by enabling the 'Open to Work' feature on your profile. Members with this notification on their profile and profile picture frame receive an average of 40% more InMails from recruiters and are 20% more likely to receive messages from the LinkedIn community. So far, 520,000 people in the Netherlands have added this frame to their profile picture.”

Don't be put off by the lack of certain skills.
“Maybe you don't have the necessary skills 1 on 1 that is required for a certain position. However, that doesn't mean you don't have a chance at that job. Think about how the skills you do have can be applied (differently). For example, you may not have direct management experience, but you may have supervised a new colleague at the same level.”

Improve your skills with an online learning course.
“Retraining can be the key to finding new job opportunities. An online course can help you brush up on knowledge or skills when you start a new job, or it can give you more confidence during your application.

Be proactive.
“A new job (usually) doesn't come to you! So be actively looking and share that too. For example, in a post in which you tell us what you are looking for, what skills you have to offer and what experience you have. Actively solicit support from your network by asking them to share your post or by tagging professionals who may be looking for employees. I have regularly seen success stories on the platform, such as that of Suzanne Klumper-Roelofs. She shared with her network that she was looking for a new job. Within a week it was hit!”
