Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is often associated with low job performance and a higher likelihood of being unemployed. But a new study from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) shows there could be a benefit. They found that people with hyperactivity, one of the main symptoms of ADHD, are more likely to start their own businesses and become self-employed.
Surveys of more than 20,000 people in Sweden and the Netherlands overwhelmingly concluded that people with this behavior are more likely to start their own business. The figures also showed that a low percentage had previously reported being unemployed before becoming entrepreneurs.
The report suggests that being an entrepreneur could be a positive career move for hyperactive people, matching their specific talents and leveraging their highly reactive minds. The high energy associated with this trait can aid in taking initiative, being risk averse and running a business.
