Back to school, synonymous with depression for the French?

September is back to school, no one is spared, young and old alike. We leave the holidays and the summer behind and we try to reconfigure our brain in work mode. The idea is not very encouraging and we would be tempted to believe that it is the big depression in perspective for everyone. Well no ! A recent survey, carried out by Qapa.fr, reveals that, for more than half of French people, the first day is completely normal or even easy.

On the first day of the new school year, 1 out of 2 French people get up earlier. The other half (46%) are overzealous in getting up earlier than usual. The latecomers ? There are only 4% of them, those who, consciously or unconsciously, extend the spirit of the holidays to the end.

While a third (27%) attack work directly and another (29%) check their email first, the majority (36%) start with the sacred task of having a coffee with colleagues. The rest (8%) take care of the mail.

For half of the workers (52%), this first day is quite ordinary and 9% find it very easy. However, it is considered very difficult by 39% of French people. When French people are asked to express their feelings about the start of the new school year, the majority (43%) say they are indifferent, while 36% mention depression. And, surprise, for 21% of French people, back to school is synonymous with euphoria.

After a hard day's work (really?!), it's time to go home. The majority of workers (61%) return at the same time, while 20% return later than usual and 19% leave earlier than the norm.

Stéphanie Delestre, CEO and co-founder of Qapa.fr, explains:“Contrary to popular belief, the French absolutely don't hate the start of the new school year. In view of the results of our survey, this cliché seems totally false and shows on the contrary that this first day is considered normal, without any negative or pejorative connotation. »
