If you're on Windows 10 and feeling let down by Microsoft's latest direction with Microsoft Office, LibreOffice is your best alternative. One big drawback, at least in my experience, is that LibreOffice is not optimized out of the box. You'll have to tweak it a bit before it starts to feel comfortable to use, and one thing that always bothered me was the font rendering.
Fortunately, this is quite easy to fix:
I don't know why it took me so long to try this tweak, but I'm glad I found it. Fonts and text now look as they should in LibreOffice. Note that the effect is much stronger if you're not using ClearType, but even if you're using ClearType, the improvements are noticeable. See these screenshots to see what I mean:
