The Chrome extension is free to download. It's in beta right now, but it works automatically with the contents of your inbox. Here's a quick rundown of how it works:

1. Download and install Dittach from the Chrome Web Store..
2. Give it permission to access the correct Gmail inbox so it can manage attachments.
3. Dittach appears as a sidebar in your inbox. The sidebar shows a feed of your attachments by date.
4. The feed has clear thumbnails of the attachment, the sender's name, the file type, the file name, and the date it was sent.
5. Click the attachment to view it (along with the email).
6. You can save, print or forward it from the sidebar.

Dittach works with almost all file types, including audio and video attachments. You can filter attachments based on file type.

The powerful extension works with Gmail's own search bar to give you another way to start searching for a file. Use it with keywords or email address. If that's not enough, the source can be scrolled by date to dig up the attachment in the haystack.
