Almost two thirds (61 percent) of Dutch entrepreneurs go on holiday at the quietest moments within the company and not when they would actually like to. In addition, 12 percent indicate that they do not go on holiday at all in order to maintain control over the company. Especially within scale-ups, entrepreneurs find it difficult to claim their vacation days. 22 percent cannot make time for this. These figures are the result of independent research, carried out on behalf of Teamleader, among Dutch SMEs.
Besides the fact that entrepreneurs cannot go on holiday when they want to, it is also difficult for them to disconnect from work during the holiday. 43 percent indicate that they can be reached for urgent matters and more than a quarter (27 percent) is in constant contact with the home front. A third of SMEs take a smart approach and provide qualified personnel they can rely on during their absence. The length and location of the trip are less of an influence. Nearly 80 percent do not take a day less vacation than they want and only 8 percent stay close to home.
