Do you dream of starting a new job this year? You're not the only one! Research by LinkedIn shows that almost two thirds (58%) of Dutch employees are considering switching jobs in 2022. But how do you ensure that you really stand out during your application?
The LinkedIn research shows that many young people in particular are ready for a new or next step in their career:no less than two-thirds! This is the perfect time to take action. The labor market is tight. This means that there are more vacancies than there are people looking for work. Below are some tips to optimally profile yourself when applying for a job:
“A CV has only one purpose and that is to evoke the feeling of:'We want to talk to them'. Ask HR or recruiters how they read resumes and they usually say, “I read so many, I scan them in 9 seconds!”. So design your resume for the hasty reader and make clever use of bold subheadings and striking numbers," says application expert Aaltje Vincent. On LinkedIn, recruiters mainly search by job titles and keywords relevant to the job. So make sure that these are always present, even if you are in between jobs! Do you want to quickly give a first personal impression? You can do this via LinkedIn Cover Story:a function where you can briefly introduce yourself in a video that is linked to your profile picture.
Where only education and experience used to be decisive for being invited for an interview, skills have become just as important. So make sure you clarify which skills you have. LinkedIn offers skills assessments that can help with this. If it is clear what your skills are, fill them in on your LinkedIn profile. Aaltje Vincent is clear about this:“Fill in all 50, yes, all 50! That ensures more vacancy matches and better findability for recruiters.”
On your LinkedIn profile you can indicate that you are open to a new challenge via the Open Candidates function. May the whole world know that you are looking? Then use the #OpenToWork button! Members who use this button receive an average of 40% more InMails from recruiters and are 20% more likely to receive messages from their LinkedIn community.
