For various reasons, many people have to work outside their workplace. Many bosses do not necessarily like this working method. They should, however, if we are to believe a recent English study, “The changing world of work”, conducted by the firm Monar for Polycom (a company whose specialty is videoconferencing). This study was carried out in 12 countries, with 25,000 employees, including 2,300 in France. 98% of these employees (61% in France) declared that their productivity increases when they work away from their place of work. This is because they choose places where they are much more effective. In France, 68% of employees prefer to work at home, and 16% prefer to do so in a coworking space. The choice of places varies between spaces that allow maximum concentration (31%) and those that allow creativity to unfold more (16%).
This study also showed that working from home would strengthen team spirit, and would be a better way to make friends with colleagues. In fact, 92% of employees working away from their office claimed to know their colleagues better. For the researchers who conducted the survey, this link between colleagues is justified by the internationalization of companies. 78% of employees said they talk to colleagues who sometimes live on the other side of the world, thanks to telephone and videoconferencing. “It is commonly accepted that people who work remotely are disconnected from their team. Conversely, this study proves that they are more sociable and inclined to form solid relationships. Indeed, new collaboration and communication tools encourage employees to pick up their phones more often to establish live contacts and create lasting bonds. This positive aspect of telework is rarely mentioned. » explained Jeanne Meinster, working for the firm Future Workplace, to the site Zevillage .
The survey did reveal negatives about working from home, however, such as the fact that 62% (68% for millennials) of employees feared that their boss would doubt their involvement and productivity outside of the workplace. Maybe they will change their minds...
