A new study shows further evidence supporting the view that sitting too much is bad for our health and waistline. Research has shown that desk-bound workers have larger waistlines and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. It supports the advice to sit less and be more active. For the study, 111 healthy postal workers were provided with an activity monitor for seven days; 55 were office workers and 56 delivered mail. The study revealed the differences between the two groups. Those with desk jobs had a larger waist circumference – 97 cm versus 94 cm – and a BMI unit difference of 1. They also had a higher risk of cardiovascular disease – 2.2% compared to 1.6% in ten years .
