When HRDs have selected a candidate, HRDs more and more often have the reflex to consult their profiles on social networks. Only 25% say they never look at these profiles before contacting or meeting a candidate. But 50.5% of HRDs do it, either often (39.5%) or always (11%). Of course, recruiters will most often look at Linkedin and Viadeo profiles that have a professional purpose. But they will also look at other profiles that are more of a private sphere.
Unless you have chosen to limit access, Our profiles, all status and cat videos that are posted are visible to everyone, including potential employers:they are an integral part of the public image of the candidates. And so that's why it's essential to limit the access of these networks. You can do it via a Facebook menu, but the simplest solution is 1) to disconnect from facebook 2) to search for your name on Google followed by Facebook to find your profile. We will see what we let others see. Be careful, even with a closed profile, most changes to profile photos and images of Une remain accessible to all Internet users.
If the HRDs will look at the profiles when they have selected a candidate, they do not yet have the reflex to recruit directly using these new tools. Thus, 64.5% said they had never recruited. On the other hand, 15.5% did so via Facebook or Linkedin. Therefore, applicants should not limit their search to these networks.
The survey was conducted by an independent polling institute for Robert Half in July 2014 among 200 Human Resources Directors / Managers (HRD) in France.
