7 out of 10 Dutch professionals attribute their career success to two people or more. First employers and previous managers seem to have the most influence on the career development of Dutch talent. In addition, 43% say they have a permanent work buddy in their current job. However, not so much for a career boost (63%) but for the daily portion of happiness at work (70%). This is shown by research by LinkedIn.
Although 1 in 3 indicates that there is not one person in particular to whom Dutch professionals owe their career, but several, the top 10 people to whom we give the most credits looks like this:
First employer
Previous manager
Colleague in the same position
Teacher
Line manager
Current manager
Boss
University lecturer
Mentor
Inspiring business entrepreneur
It is undeniable that a buddy at work also plays a crucial role in the degree of happiness at work. However, a 'bestie' at work is not self-evident. 43% of professionals say they have a buddy. A work buddy appears to make a positive contribution to the professional's happiness at work in several areas. Nearly half of them (46%) say it increases self-confidence, helps manage stress levels (53%) and a work buddy helps them get through the working day (70%).
However, the influence of a work buddy is not infinite, the development of our career path seems to be independent of it. Moreover, we draw the line somewhere – more than three quarters of professionals (77%) are not convinced or say they do not even consider leaving if their work partner were to leave the company.
